Case Study: China Rapid Finance

Description:

CRF is a Mobile phone based Exchange facilitating transactions between borrowers and lenders in the P2P space. It does not have any balance sheet risk, provides no guarantees, and earns its revenue from servicing and origination fees paid by borrowers and lenders. It partners with Mobile based service providers, such as messaging services, and payment providers, to solicit borrowers through its Partners APs. Prior to solicitation it performs an extensive automated pre-screening based on Social and other data.

Venture:

DLB became the largest investor in China Risk Finance in 2007, allowing the company to utilize the growth capital to fund a national expansion of CRF P2P .

Investment Thesis:

China represents the largest emerging market for credit products to the emerging middle class. CRF’s business model captures the cultural shift in China from a cash-based society to a credit-based society. and was set upoerve consumers as their credit needs and credit performance improves.

Current Status:

CRF continues to expand its market leadership in P2P  through expansion of its facilitation of online ending and borrowing . The CEO is also head of the China Micro Credit Association and is working to establish regualtory and disclosure standards for this emerging business sector in China. CRF according to  a recent Oliver Wyman study is the leading online consumer lending platform in China
